CANNAVARO AGREES WITH HALT

Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro shared his view on the state of Italian football, following the terrible events that took place in Catania last Friday.

Here is what Cannavaro had to say on his official website, produced in collaboration with Goal.com.

“To halt the league was surely a correct decision by FIGC chief Pancalli so people could take a moment to stop and reflect. I think all of the players will agree on this decision. What happened in Catania shouldn’t take place anymore, and we hope that in these days the correct decisions are taken to protect Italian football.”

“As a start, the laws that already exist could start being applied. Now they exist, but aren’t put into practice as they should. I express my condolences to the family of Filippo Raciti (the officer killed during the riots between Sicilian supporters). I hope that solutions to block this violence are found soon, because one can’t die for a football match.”
