The CannavaroFerrara Foundation is born from the desire of bringing hope and concrete help to the young people of their origin land living in difficulties.
They are both far from Naples because of their job, these 2 champions made a dream come true: they wanted to be close to the people they belong to not only with their heart but entering the field in their favour.
That’s how on May 5th 2005 the FerraraCannavaro foundation saw the light: Ciro Ferrara is the president and Fabio Cannavaro is vice president.
The foundation’s activities have the goal to help minors living in difficult situations and social diseases to improve their life through sport, cultural, fun and instructive events, mainly located in Naples areas.
The foundation – incorporated with a first capital stock of 55,000€ - provides money for itself through private and companies subsidies or through special events connected to the founders’ images
The first event that saw the foundation presence was Ferrara’s last match on June 9 th 2005 at San Paolo Stadium in Naples.
The teams that entered the field wore a special shirt with the “FcF” logo on.
Furthermore a part of the gained money was used to buy 42 baskets that the foundation donated to 21 Naples’ areas
Another important initiative was the cooperation with the local newspaper “il mattino” : a book and a t-shirt with Ferrara’s career funniest moments.
The foundation also created the mascots to be put on every single event and/or fact regarding the foundation. The mascots are two caricatures of Fabio & Ciro, made as cartoons.
The foundation was recognized by Regione Campania last December 2005, thanks to the president Mr Antonio Bassolino.
On December 22 nd 2005 a dinner took place at San Theodore Palace in Naples: for many local entrepreneurs, politicians and private friends.
Their donations will allow the foundation to build completely a recreation centre dedicated to Annalisa Durante in the Forcella neighbourhood
(Annalisa was a young girl aged 14 when she was killed by mafia while going out with some friends in a mid summer night. The killers were looking for a young man that was walking next to her. When he sae those killers he got the girl and used her as a shield and she was shot to death)
On March 20 th 2006 the foundation together with the Naples major presented a campaign to encourage youth to wear the crash helmet while riding a motor bike.
100,000 leaflets were distributed in town and near areas.
Among the most recent foundations events there is the Fabio & Ciro go to New York City.
The 2 champions flew to NY last May to present their foundation to the italo-americans living there and they also played a football tournament together with them
The money arose will be used to help a very sweet Italian girl to be healed in the US. She needs to have her tetraparesis and epilepsy treated in a special way at the moment possible only there.
Another part of that money will pay a MicroArrey equipment to help studies and comparisons of blood cancer in order to prevent it and heal it in a more efficient way.
This sort of machinery is not present in south Italy yet.
This October the foundation will organize a football tournament in Naples neighbours inside and outside the town for students, it will be named “a ball for hope”
Next year they will take part to the 1° master in sport enterprise creation.
Fabio has recently declared :” I’m aware that I’m in a privileged position: my life has been kissed by a wonderful sun, Surely I’m not the only one in this position, but I know that so many people live in bad conditions especially in my region, this is the reason why I want to bring some sun in their lives, too ! This is my personal engagement and Ciro’s too!”
Ciro said: “Far from Naples nut with my heart close to all these guys born in my town, in my region
My engagement is to try to relieve their suffering and improve their way of living”
