CANNAVARO NOMINATED FOR FIFA WORLD PLAYER 2006

Fabio Cannavaro and Zinedine Zidane are two of the FIFA World Player 2006 nominees. The award ceremony will be held in Zurich's Opera House on 18 December. Real Madrid's centre back could add this accolade to the Golden Ball award given to him by France Football on 27 November in Paris.

Fabio Cannavaro, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldinho, and female players Kristine Lilly (USA), Renate Lingor (Germany) and Marta (Brazil), have been nominated for Best Male and Female FIFA World Player 2006. The winners will be announced on 18 December.

The six of them have been selected from FIFA lists by coaches and captains from male and female national teams around the globe. The male list originally featured 30 players, while the female list featured 20.

The winners will be known during the FIFA World Player Gala 2006, to be held at Zurich's Opera House on 18 December, birthdate of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Gala's motto will be "Football celebrates Mozart."

The 16th Edition of the award ceremony will also feature other accolades. As well as the traditional Presidential and Fair Play Awards, this year, the best performances in the Germany World Cup 2006 will also be acknowledged.

There will be awards for the three best players -Zinedine Zidane, Fabio Cannavaro and Andrea Pirlo- the best goal scorers -Miroslav Klose, Hernán Crespo and Ronaldo- best goalkeeper -Gianluigi Buffon- and best fair play teams -Brazil and Spain.
