Fabio Cannavaro aspires to win the award for Best Defender of last season's Champions League
UEFA's list of nominees was announced on Monday. The list is comprised of those players who, with their brilliant performances, made last season's Champions League a spectacle to be seen. The awards are divided into four categories: Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, Best Midfielder and Best Attacker of the Year. The 16 managers of the teams that qualified for last year's Champions League Round of 16, as well as the members of UEFA's Technical Studies group, will participate in the voting. Cannavaro has been nominated for Best Defender of the Year alongside Arsenal's Emmanuel Eboué and Barcelona's Carles Puyol. The awards will be presented August 24 at 6 pm CET at the annual UEFA ceremony held in Monaco. The award ceremony will take place during the group stage drawing for next season's Champions League.
