MADRID, Spain (AP) - Fabio Cannavaro may miss Real Madrid's Spanish league game with Sevilla after spraining his left ankle during training on Thursday.
Cannavaro, on his first day back in training following a muscle injury which forced him out of Madrid's last two matches, was hurt by a strong challenge from teammate Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The defender reacted angrily and refused to shake hands with van Nistelrooy, news agency Efe said.
Cannavaro, Italy's World Cup winning captain, was named as European player of the year last week. He has also been picked as a candidate for FIFA's world player of the year together with Ronaldinho and Zinedine Zidane.
Other Madrid players doubtful for Saturday's game at Sevilla's Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium are forward Jose Antonio Reyes and playmaker Jose Maria "Guti" Gutierrez. Midfielder Mahamadou Diarra is suspended and defender Ivan Helguera is sidelined through injury.
Madrid is second with 29 points, one more than third-place Sevilla. Defending champion FC Barcelona is top with 30.
